We Survived!

Phew!  Our Halloween party (last night) was a success!  We had an ecclectic group of people (41 total!) that we knew from highschool, work, and Dave's lodge.  We had soooo much fun!  I was a hippie, and David was...well...I'll just show you the pictures and you can decide (he was the one in the pink dress.)  Kristine and her boyfriend Teddy came as the 1985 Prom Queen and King...too cute! (Just a note here...Yes Teddy's wearing a mullet wig, that's not his real hair, I promise!...oh, and those aren't David's real hips under that dress either!) I'm gonna put more of the party pics in an album over on the side of the blog if you want to laugh at us, but here are a couple teasers...

Attention Santa!

Alright ladies...here she is... the new purple, yes I said PURPLE Squeeze hand tool from Quickutz!!  Whoop whooop!!  If you hate cutting letters, then this delicious little friend will help make your life a happier place.  :)  We didn't get very many of them, so if you're thinking about putting this on your Christmas list, I'd suggest doing a fast forward!  If you want me to email your own special Santa, just send me the email addy and I'll shoot him/her a quick little hint for ya.  Oh, this reminds me...we're going to do a holiday registry again this year, so start thinking about what you'd like to see in your stocking.  We'll get the registry up and running in the next couple of weeks!

What's this???  Oh yessss, it's the cover of the Creating Keepsakes December issue...and who's page is gracing this cover, you might ask?  Why it's our very own good friend Jen Gallacher!  Congratulations girl, you rock!  Now... how 'bout moving your little behind back to the South so we can celebrate in person??  You're entirely tooooo far away! :) 

Now, we have a couple dozen of these magazines in the store, and I'm recommending that you come on in and pick one up because it has some great articles and ideas in it this month.  I'm really diggin' Jennifer McGuire's examples for using acrylic paints (goodness knows, we all have tons of those in our stash!)

And Tracy White's article about creating a journaling jar to capture meaningful tidbits of info to be used later on layouts is sooooo cool!

Plus, Becky Higgins has 5 new sketches that are perfect for scrapbooking all those holiday photos...hmmm what a great idea...let's actually get last year's holiday photos scrapped before we get into this years events! 

Show and Tell

Here's a fun layout that I'd put away and finally pulled back out to complete.  When I first started, I'd chosen blues and greens for my papers, but it just wasn't 'popping' like I wanted it to.  So I left it alone for a week, then came back with a fresh set of eyes.  I decided to try a completely different color scheme to see if that would help...and it did!  I think the contrasting background colors help the photo become the star of the show!  I also wanted to use a 'flowy' style layout, to kind of symbolize the free flowing imaginations of the girls.  What do you think?

Challenge Yourself Workshop #2

Amber's done it again!  She's come up with a super cool layout for her next Challenge Yourself Workshop.  This time she's going to show you some fun ideas to create your own chipboard embellishments, make a ribbon 'cluster' and customize floral accents.  Plus she's throwing in a challenge of her own...using photos other than 4x6...she'll focus on creating layouts featuring 5x7's and 3x3's.  Should be fun!  You'll have a couple of different options...a.) Take the class  or b.) Purchase a kit.  Each is only $15.00, and we must have prepayment before the class.  The date is Saturday, November 11th at 6:30pm.  Hope to see YOU there!  Here's a pic of the layout...

So here's the assignment...

Alright, I've given you two fun ideas for layouts... (See the two posts below)

1.) Do a page that documents why you feel lucky about life... is it your job? your kids or grandkids?  hubby? new house? your faith? your freedom? how 'bout why you're lucky to have the pet you have?

2.) Use first person journaling (coming from the subject's mouth, not yours) to make a layout that shows the subject's personality.  In my "Roll" layout, I pretended that this is what Elizabeth would say if she could talk like a teenager (totally Marci Lambert's idea.) Can you do this with your own child/grandchild? How about your pet? Or your car? Or your house?  etc...

Send me your layout!  I want to see what you've done... email it to me at [email protected]  or bring it to me at the store (I'll scan it for you).  If I post your layout on our blog you'll get a treat from Savannah Scrapbooking the next time you come in to shop!

Hmm...What can I scraplift today?

Apparently I'm in a scraplifting mood this weekend, b/c this is the second page that came from the pages of a magazine.  :)  Sure, it's different (the original lo was 8.5x11, and very subtle colors) but in essence it's still the same.  I fell in love with Marci Lambert's layout called Roll (it's on pg 65 in the new Simple Scrapbooks) and decided to do a page about my own little tyrant.  It scanned a little dark, but you'll get the jist of it.  I stayed very close to Marci's original journaling, but added my own touches here and there. 

Journaling says:

okay, let me get settled here...we need to get a few things straight.  i'm only gonna say this once, here's how it's gonna be.  i may look all cute and adorable right now, but you just hang on...there will be tantrums thrown, oh yes...at home, in church, and especially in the kroger or walmart when i get tired of riding in the buggy and know you'll be too embarressed to wrestle me in public.

i will run around with no clothes on. i may tinkle in the potty, or possibly in my toy box, or on days when i can't muster up the energy, just right there on the carpet...totally not my problem.  next, the tv needs to be on 24/7, one set on a continuous loop of barney, the other alternating between the fox and the hound and the lion king.  if i decide that it's time to climb on top of the dining room table, you better be there to catch me. 

don't even think about telling me it's time to leave michaela's house, or the park...there will be serious consequenses.  you will make me pasta for lunch every day of my life...no deviating from the plan, understand?  i will fight you tooth and nail to stay out of the tub, but once i'm in it, don't interrupt me...i'll be in it for at least 45 minutes.  i will  not go to sleep by myself...you may as well get over any idealistic expectations of that ever happening.

Lucky me?

Thanks Michelle P, for the motivation to do this layout!  You see, Michelle came in to shop the other day, and asked me if I'd seen the November Creating Keepsakes article about expressing what's good in your life.  The article is called Lucky Girl...Michelle said it just struck her as something I should do...and you know what? She's right!  I am a lucky girl...I always say that I live a charmed life (geez, would someone pleeeeeease knock on wood for me?!?!)  Of course one of the biggest reasons I feel lucky is because I get to go to work in a scrapbook store everyday!  My neighbors tease me that I always have a big grin on my face when I'm going to work, and it's true! 

So, I found the Lucky Girl article (pg 131) and found inspiration from Sara Winnick's layout on page 133...even used her quote.  Thanks Michelle for the great idea! Here's the layout...

Let's give it up for Amber!!!

Whoop Whoop!!!  I know many of you are big Amber fans, so I wanted to let everyone know that she has sealed the big deal with Adornit/Carolee's Creations to design products for them!  Her blog is www.albumsbyamber.blogspot.com if you want to see more details.  I'm so proud of this girl!  She's got talent and the balls to back it up!  (I'm still waiting for mine to grow in hee hee!)  Wow, just think, she's going to get to scrap all she wants and get paid for it...ahhh, hey wait a minute...that's what I do...
