I couldn't stand it for one more minute.
Not one.
I HAD to get my hands dirty and get diggin' in our Dhuland garden.
And sure, it's January, which means it's still freakin' COLD out there, but in honor of warmer weather I went out in the spirit of Springtime...
The garden is looking pretty bleak at the moment...
But times is a changin' people... I FEEL it in my bonesies!
Right now is (at least I hope) the time to plant lettuce, broccoli, onions and peas because these are all cold weather loving greens. I'm a cold weather garden virgy so I guess we'll see what happens.
This is going to be full of romaine lettuce, while its twin bucket will sport some iceburg lettuce.
I'll have a washtub full of chives, and the small brick bed will be my experimental broccoli bed.
While I was hoeing and planting, Big Dave was risking life and limb for me as he battled the deliciously evil muscadine vines that were taking over the southern side of the garden.
Um... I'm pretty sure he's breaking like EVERY ladder rule in the book, but he managed to get them pulled away, clearing another 25 square feet of planting space for me, yayyayayaaa!
And while Big Dave was defying death, Shady was doling out an old fashioned dose of chicken terror as she got to know Edith and Geraldine...
Oh yes... now I remember, Shady's a bird dog. Hmph. I have a feeling there's not going to be a whole lot of poultry-pointer bonding going on around here.
And of course we can't forget Ruby the super pom... what was she doing while her family was slaving away? While her pointer sister was herding the chickens? While her Daddy was risking his valuable appendages on top of a ladder?
Well even if the red rodent isn't terribly enthused about bringing life to the Dhuland garden, I sure am.
Now... how many days 'til Spring?
No, Shady and the chickens woin't bond in the way we would hope they would. My Kappe will try to chase a Junco that is on the deck picking up dropped seed from the feeder. If it moves she is after it. I envy you your love of digging in the dirt and growing things and I am anxiously awaiting the fruits of your labors(seeing them anyway in pictures). Like your new red toe nail polish.
