Here we are, a week after the official end of deer season and about a month and a half before the start of turkey season.
This is the time of year when Big Dave retires the rifle to the gun cabinet, tucks his camo suit back onto the top shelf of the closet, forces himself to recollect all the wonderful reasons why he LOVES me so much, and addresses the honey-do list that's been hanging in the air around here for the last handful of months.
And first on this list was to devise and carry out a plan to tackle the encroaching jungle of muscadine and smilax vines that have all but taken over the back fence of our garden.
The first step involved a chain saw, and as Big Dave lashed through the vines, cutting a swath of destruction and debris, I think I heard them actually cry...
And then, if that wasn't enough... Once Big Dave snipped them off at the ground, we wrapped 'em in a rope, and pulled 'em out of the trees with the truck...
Oh that was GOOD stuff right there.
Then the offending debris was dragged to its death (accompanied by a pomeranian escort, of course) and deposited on the side of the road where the garbage man will collect it in a few days.
Things were lookin' good. Really good.
Except Big Dave had this personal vendetta with a limb that happened to be about twenty feet off the ground. Uh oh.
I was like, "Boonkie don't worry about it, now that the vines are off of it I barely even notice it."
But Big Dave was like, "Um, no Boonkie... it's a rotten stub of detestability and it must leave our property." (Or something like that.)
And we all know how men are don't we? Once he got that bee in his bonnet it's all he could think about.
So without anymore small talk, he mounted the 24 foot ladder and got to work... eek!
Did I mention he grabbed the chainsaw before climbing up the ladder?
Oh geez.
Luckily, after several minutes of chainsawing, then burning up said chainsaw, then wrapping a rope around the limb and pulling it the rest of the way down with the truck, it was over.
No one died today.
Plop plop fizz fizz, oh what a RELIEF it is!
AND we can check one thing off the list...
Man wins!
