When I was a teenager, I was scrawny and long legged. In high school I grew to 5'8" and only weighed a hundred pounds. When the subject of eating disorders came up in health class, I swear people cut their eyes in my direction. But I was just the product of a 6'4," 180 lb daddy and a 5'7" 95lb mama. Basically, I was a stork. However, storks are a prized commodity in the fashion business, and even though I heard it alot, I never got up the courage to go to Millie Lewis (the only modeling agency in town as far as I know, back in the 80's.) Nope. Not only did I have chicken legs, I had a chicken heart.
So, when my kiddo started saying that she thought she'd like to take some modeling classes, I figured, what the heck let's go for it. I definitely don't want her to live with the 'I wish I had's' like I do.
I'd heard great things about Halo Models and Talent here in Savannah, so we looked 'em up, and got her registered for some teen classes. They ended up being pretty doggoned awesome. Not only are the classes full of info about the biz, the people who teach them are so freakin' supportive and full of positivity. It was a great experience!
Lizzy auditioned at a couple of open calls, and got the one for Savannah Fashion Week (did I ever put that on here? Heck, I can't remember!) but what she really really really wanted was for Halo to sign her as one of their exclusive models. When you sign with Halo, then they become your representative and submit your 'comp card' (photos) and information to companies that are looking for models. She even put it on her dream board above her bed!
So, you can imagine she was totally stoked when, after last weekend's photo shoot with Luke Andrews , they emailed us saying that they decided that they wanted to represent her!! (Her photos were kinda beautiful... and yes, I am 150% biased!)

The shoot was SO much fun, and she gained some much needed experience in front of the camera.

And of course she and I both know there are a billion pretty faces out there, so we're trying to be realistic, but we all know I'm a dreamer (and a scrapbooker,) so I had to make sure I got a pic of her signing her contract...

And when I snapped this pic of her in front of the Halo sign the other day, I didn't know I'd get to say she's a Halo model so soon!

I'm so grateful for the positive experience we've had with them so far, I just want to give them a shout out. If your kiddo has the itch to walk the runway, I totally suggest you take them to Stephanie at Halo. I'm not sure about their Summer hours, but usually they have an agency open call every Wednesday from 5-7, check out their website for details. It's totally free.
Also, Halo is partnering with The Cotton Sail Hotel to bring agents, managers and casting directors from Atlanta, New York and L.A to check out the talent in our area. It's on June 21st, and you have to register for it, but it's only $75, and it'll get you or your kid in front of REAL talent agents. If you're interested (we'll be there) then go check out the Summer Showcase info on Halo's site.
And when you think about it, send some good vibes Lizzy's way okay? She's really excited about this opportunity, and it wouldn't hurt to make some college money right? :)
